Left-hand-drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Mauritania. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES β€’ Title and Registration certificate β€’ Commercial invoice β€’ Certificate of Inspection (provided by Societe Generale de Surveillance) β€’ Bill of Lading or Certificate of Origin (chassis and engine number, and weight of the vehicle should be clearly mentioned in BoL) β€’ Insurance certificate All the documents should be given to the agent a month before the import of the used vehicle from Japan. TAXATION β€’ 9% to 27% of the tax rate will be levied as per the vehicle’s utility. β€’ 78% of the car’s value will be charged as tax if the vehicle is new. β€’ 50% of the value of the used vehicle will be charged as tax. β€’ VAT is also imposed on the import of used vehicles from Japan. β€’ If the used vehicles from Japan are being imported temporarily, then exemption on tax can be given. β€’ Exemption on duty and taxes is given in the import of the vehicles by diplomats. Cheap used Japanese cars are affordable for people in Mauritania and can be exported through a Japanese used car exporter.
